Easy Firecracker Chicken Recipe: A Flavor Explosion in Every Bite

Ingredients

For the Chicken:

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts (or thighs, if you prefer)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil for cooking

For the Sauce:

  • ¼ cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1-2 tablespoons sriracha depending on how spicy you like it!
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch to thicken the sauce
  • A pinch of red pepper flakes optional, for extra heat

For Serving:

  • Cooked rice or noodles your choice!
  • Chopped green onions optional, for garnish
  • Sesame seeds optional, for garnish

Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Chicken

  • Start by seasoning your chicken breasts with a little salt and pepper. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the chicken breasts and cook for about 6-7 minutes on each side, or until the chicken is fully cooked and golden brown on the outside. I love that crispy edge! Once the chicken is cooked through, remove it from the skillet and set it aside.

Step 2: Make the Firecracker Sauce

  • Now, it’s time to get that delicious sauce going. In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, just until fragrant. Be careful not to burn it!
  • Next, add the honey, soy sauce, sriracha, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes (if you're using them). Stir everything together and bring it to a simmer. Let it cook for about 3-4 minutes until the sauce has thickened up a bit.

Step 3: Coat the Chicken

  • Once the sauce has thickened, it’s time to bring it all together. Add the cooked chicken back into the skillet, and pour the sauce over the top. Make sure each piece of chicken is coated in that amazing sauce. Let it simmer for another 2-3 minutes so the chicken soaks up all the flavors.

Step 4: Serve and Enjoy

  • Finally, remove the chicken from the skillet and slice it into pieces. Serve it over a bed of rice or noodles, and drizzle any leftover sauce on top. Garnish with some chopped green onions and sesame seeds for a little extra flavor and crunch. And that’s it – you’re ready to eat!
