Chicken Cordon Bleu Casserole Recipe

Ingredients

For the Casserole:

  • 2 cups cooked chicken shredded or diced
  • 1 cup diced ham make sure it’s fully cooked
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese or Gruyère for extra flavor
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

For the Sauce:

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Topping:

  • 1 cup breadcrumbs panko works great for extra crunch
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley optional, for garnish

Instructions

Step 1: Prep Your Ingredients

  • Before you start, make sure all your ingredients are ready to go. Shred the chicken, dice the ham, and measure out your cheeses. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 2: Make the Sauce

  • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once it’s fully melted, whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute to get rid of the raw flour taste. Slowly pour in the milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring frequently, until it thickens. This should take about 3-5 minutes.
  • Stir in the Dijon mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Taste and adjust the seasonings if needed. Once the sauce is smooth and flavorful, remove it from the heat.

Step 3: Assemble the Casserole

  • Spread the shredded chicken evenly across the bottom of your prepared baking dish. Layer the diced ham on top, followed by the shredded Swiss cheese. Pour the creamy sauce evenly over the layers, making sure everything is well-coated.
  • Sprinkle the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses over the top. Trust me, this cheesy layer is what dreams are made of!

Step 4: Add the Topping

  • In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with the melted butter. Spread the buttery crumbs evenly over the casserole. This will give it that irresistible golden crust.

Step 5: Bake

  • Bake the casserole in your preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling. Your kitchen will smell amazing—a sure sign that dinner is almost ready.
